課程概述 考試範圍

This course aims to develop students' general English proficiency at the B2
level, with an emphasis on improving English listening and speaking skills.
Approximately 50% of the course content is related to academic contexts. It
aims to advance students' English listening and speaking skills. Students will
further develop listening skills through authentic listening materials. Students
will also develop speaking skills through a variety of interactive activities.

By the end of the course, students will learn to:
comprehend English listening materials of different topics
take notes
understand different accents
speak with confidence
express personal opinions
ask and answer questions appropriately
lead and participate in effective group discussions
deliver oral presentations using visual aids

Students need upper-intermediate level of English proficiency.

7/7 Introduction + Theme: Cultural Literacy + Academic News Listening Topic: Urban Fire Incident in Hong Kong

7/13 – Urban Development and Transportation Systems

Listening Focus:

  • Academic lectures, policy talks, and reports on urban infrastructure, city planning, and transportation systems.

7/14 – Education, Economy, and Workforce Development

Listening Focus:

  • Academic or semi-academic talks on education systems, lifelong learning, and workforce development strategies.

7/20 – Museum Visits and Air Travel

Listening Focus: Academic talks on museum exhibits and a news report on an air travel incident, including flight procedures and safety announcements.

7/21 – EEG and Brain Activity News

Listening Focus: Academic explanation of EEG in cognitive science and a news report on recent brain research findings or medical studies.

7/27 – Campus Violence News Report + Mid-term Exam

7/28 – Medical Video Analysis

Listening Focus: Watch a short academic video on a medical topic (e.g., hospital procedures, patient care, or recent research findings).
